Pyrus calleryana 'Aristocrat'

For the first of my plant profiles I chose 'Pyrus calleryana 'Aristocrat'. An ornamental pear tree that has so much to offer from spring blossom to brilliant autumn colour. This tree is quite fast growing and an ideal tree for a town section. I love the way the branches layer making it quite a grand tree. Suitable for use as a specimen tree or street planting this tree is tough and withstands the wind. Pyrus calleryana 'Kea' is very similar and sometimes easier to find. Height approx 6m spread 4m.

Stylish Concrete Pavers

Christchurch based Paving and landscape supplies company Urban Paving have an extensive range of paving products available. They have been Georgie P Landscape Architecture's preferred paving suppliers for a number of years. When selecting your pavers, consistency of paver thicknesses is hugely important and some lower quality pavers can be a nightmare for contractors to lay resulting in higher labor costs- we have found the Urban Pavers to be very consistent. We have samples available to view in our office.

Classy Outdoor Heating

Dunedin-based gas-fire company Escea have created a stylish range of gas fireplaces that includes the EF 5000 Outdoor Fireplace. The sleek stainless steel look is great used in a courtyard as a focal point and has the added bonus of keeping you warm! With wood fires becoming much harder to gain consent for due to clean burning rules these fires are a great alternative. The thing I like best is that black or white stones are used instead of fake logs- my pet hate when it comes to gas fireplaces!

Outdoor Sofas

Auckland based furniture designer Noel Price has created an innovative range of fully upholstered outdoor furniture. Solaire has created a range of upholstered furniture which resists the rigors of the outdoor environment, and which is capable of remaining outdoors all year round. There is a fantastic range of outdoor fabrics available on the market now and Solaire allow you to upholster your furniture in any suitable fabric you choose, giving you endless design options.
Here at Georgie P we are really excited about this product and we are able to supply the product direct to our clients. Contact us to find out about options and prices.

Living it up Doggy Style

Who said dog kennels had to be boring and ugly? Australian designer Anna Keen, founder of Barchitecture created these fantastic kennels after being fed up with the kennels on the market. Barchitecture aim to bring a fresh approach to the dog house market of Australia for people who appreciate both their pets and good quality design.

Hannah Kidd

I can't wait for the day that I have a piece of Hannah Kidd sculpture in my collection! The Methven based artist uses predominantly steel rod and corrugated iron and investigates people and the relationships they have with their surrounding environment. Animals continue to feature heavily in her work and are frequently used as a vehicle to discuss the human condition.

Sustainability By Design

What better place to start than at my very own back door! Wanaka based environmental artist Martin Hill's work and philosophies have been a great inspiration to my own design and sculpture work. Martin has a great book as well as photographic prints of his work for sale. Why not spend a free weekend gathering some stones or driftwood from your local beach and creating a permanent piece of sculpture for your garden.

"In 1992 I became so concerned about products causing environmental damage because of their unsustainable design that I turned my focus to understanding and communicating about solutions to these design issues."

"By creating and publishing environmental art my message of sustainability by design now reaches millions of people each year."

Hello all and welcome to the Georgie P Landscape Architecture 'Outside' blog. This is all new to me at this stage so bear with me as I learn the ropes. Over the next few months I hope to create a blog space that provides our clients and friends with inspiration and ideas to take to their gardens and landscapes. Suggestions and ideas from you all will be much appreciated
