Structured Gardens

We find that structured or formal gardens cans work particularly well where space is limited. A structured garden is often made up of a series of "layers" & hedging is quite often used as part of these layers. Hedges are a great way to provide screening and shelter and are much more cost effective than fencing. People often think of hedges as high maintenance however correct species selection can reduce maintenance and many hedges only require trimming twice a year.
Standards and topiary can add another dimension to the garden and while not to everyone's taste, can be very effective in giving the structure that a tree might otherwise give in a more controlled manner.
With many of our designs, we create a certain sense of formality at the entrance of the house. There's nothing worse than arriving at someone's house and not being about to find the front door! Formality can assist in framing and guiding you to the correct place.
